This is so exciting!!!

Dale Wilson lent me some REAL lamps :)

My bike needed a bit of work before the tech inspection, but I was in good hands.

This is the line for tech inspection

This is what is at the end of the line. He looks friendly enough. Dude, are you going to eat those Fritos??

This is the final line in the check-in process. It takes you to the inner sanctum of Mike Kneebone, where you are first photographed, then seated at a table where all of your registration documents are scrutinized and you are (hopefully) pronounced entered in the 2005 IBR. That's Peter Leap in the center. He finished 12th.

After the tech inspection I noticed oil on my right boot and right side bag. I was also low on oil. Hmm. Paul Glaves to the rescue. Diagnosis: leaking head cover gasket. Fixed easily by Paul. Thank you.

I don't know whose bike this is, but I LOVE the sticker!

Sean Gallagher's awesome cockpit as shown by Paul Glaves

Ira Agins

Heidi Still rocks

The charming and always dapper Shane Smith

Eddie's bike ridden by Jack Savage. I love this bike and it's custom paint.

Cockpit of pretty green bike

Jack's roadbook with instructions "DON'T CRASH EDDIE'S BIKE."

Jack placed 5th and Eddie placed 9th.

George Zelenz and Matt Watkins

Iron Butt Rally eve! Here's me planning my lame-ass Leg One :)

Mistakes were made. Lessons were learned.

Rally morning - impound and odometer check are serious business

Rob Nye's got his game face on

I love this picture of me pulling out of the Doubletree lot! What an exciting morning.

Photograph by Uncle Bud.

Oregon coast. This is a picture of the sun setting on my bonus goals for day 2. So many points so close but so far away.

Even when I was screwing up I was having the time of my life.

Fast forward to checkpoint 2 in Maine. Here are Tom and Rosie. I learned a lot from these nice folks.

Scoring in Maine

This is the nap room at the Maine checkpoint. How many riders do you see in this picture?

Does this look exciting to you or would you rather watch paint dry?

If it looks exciting you may be an LD Rider.

This picture was taken a couple hours after my finish by Dennis Murphy who did his first BBG from IL to Denver. Then Dennis bought me breakfast - my first relaxed, sit-down hot meal in 11 days. Something to smile about indeed!
